Agencies Release New Report on State of HIV Prevention Across the U.S.

The Kaiser Family Foundation and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) has released a new report assessing the status of HIV prevention efforts in the U.S., at a time of increasing budget constraints.
The National HIV Prevention Inventory: The State of HIV Prevention Across the U.S. provides the first comprehensive look at how HIV prevention is delivered across the country.
The report is based on a survey of the 65 health departments that receive direct federal HIV prevention funding, which includes every U.S. state and territory, as well as 6 cities with large HIV burdens.
The report comes at a time when HIV prevention funding is threatened due to an ongoing recession, shrinking tax revenues, and shifting budget priorities. In California, for example, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently used a line-item veto to eliminate HIV prevention funding approved by the legislature.
